Meeting Lamashtu: A Dark Mother Meditation and Sigil Working

Introduction

In the shadows between worlds, there are wild, sovereign, and untamed forces older than gods.

Among them stands Lamashtu, the Dark Mother: lioness of death and life, devourer, and giver of power.

Lamashtu is one of ancient Mesopotamia's most powerful and feared goddesses, embodying raw feminine chaos, deathly energy, and profound personal transformation.

For those brave enough to walk her bone-strewn path, she offers no mercy — only rebirth through fire, fear, and fierce awakening.

In this post, I will guide you through a full meditation to meet Lamashtu face-to-face and share a custom sigil charged with her primal current.

This is not a journey for the faint of heart. But if you are ready to shed your old skin and rise unbreakable, welcome.

Who is Lamashtu?

Lamashtu arises from the ancient religions of Sumer, Akkad, and Babylon, dating back to at least 2000 BCE. She is depicted with a lioness's body, a bestial or woman's head with fangs, long clawed fingers, and the feet of a bird of prey.

Unique among ancient spirits, she was not commanded by any god, not even mighty Enlil or Ea. She acted purely of her own will, making her one of the first truly independent dark goddesses.

Feared as the bringer of nightmares, disease, miscarriage, and death, she also represents fierce maternal power, primal survival, and transformation through suffering.

In modern occult practice, she is revered along the left-hand path by those seeking liberation through the confrontation of fear, death, and the unknown.

Dark Mother Meditation Journey

Preparation

  • Dark clothing
  • One black or red candle
  • Dragon’s Blood or Myrrh incense
  • A small offering (wine, raw meat, black bread)
  • Her sigil present (optional but powerful)

The Journey: A Guided Meditation

Begin:
Find a quiet, darkened space. Light your candle and incense. Sit comfortably. Close your eyes.

Breathwork:
Inhale deeply through your nose, counting to four.
Hold.
Exhale fully through your mouth.
Repeat until your body feels heavy, your mind still.

Descent into the Desert

Visualize standing under a black sky. The ground beneath you is cracked and dry. A heavy blood-red moon looms above.

In the distance, a path made of bleached bones stretches into the darkness.

Begin walking.

Feel the crunch beneath your feet. Smell the dry, dusty air.

Crossing the Gate

Ahead, a towering gate of lion skulls entwined with serpents.

As you approach, the gate creaks open.

Enter.

Approaching Her Throne

In the center of a barren field, under the gaze of the red moon, stands a throne of bones.

Seated upon it: Lamashtu.

Her feral golden eyes lock onto yours. Her presence is overwhelming — yet magnetic.

Her Challenge

She stares deep into your soul.

Listen for her voice:

  • "Why have you come?"
  • "What must you surrender to be reborn?"
  • "Will you survive the darkness I reveal within you?"

Offering Yourself

Kneel in your mind’s eye.

Offer your fears, doubts, weaknesses into her outstretched claws.

Feel her energy sear through you, burning away illusion and fear.

Transformation

She may touch your forehead, bite your palm, or wrap you in a serpent's embrace.

Do not resist.

Accept this act of primal rebirth.

Receiving Her Gift

She places something in your hands — a word, a symbol, a vision.

This is your key to deeper work with her.

Return

When ready, rise.

Thank her.

Walk back along the path of bones.

Let the landscape dissolve.

Open your eyes.

Aftercare

  • Eat and drink to ground yourself.
  • Record everything you experienced — no matter how small.
  • Rest. Her energy can be brutally intense.

The Sigil of Awakening

  • Meditate upon it before ritual.
  • Place it on your altar.
  • Anoint with blood, wine, or sacred oil.
  • Use it as a gateway to her current.

Calling Upon Lamashtu

Ritual Setup

  • Black or red candle
  • Dragon’s Blood or Myrrh incense
  • Offering (wine, meat, bread)
  • Her sigil present

Invocation

Chant her name seven times:

"Lamashtu... Lamashtu... Dark Mother, hear me."

Then speak:

"Lamashtu, Lioness of the Black Earth,
Mother of Chaos, Midwife of Death and Birth,
I call you forth not in fear, but in honor.
Strip from me my weakness,
Forge in me the power of the wild soul.
I offer you my respect, my truth, and my will.
Come forth, Dark Mother, and awaken the fire within me."

Wait. Listen. Sense.

Offer her your gift.

Close the ritual respectfully.

Protection Formula (Post-Ritual)

"I seal this space with the blood of the Earth and the breath of the void.
No uninvited spirit may remain.
Only my will endures."

Snuff out the candle — do not blow it out.

To walk with Lamashtu is to walk the bleeding edge between life and death.

She does not coddle. She does not comfort.

She tears down the lies you have built around yourself — and if you endure, she rebuilds you as something feral, powerful, and free.

Trust the journey.

Fear is the gatekeeper.

Power is the reward.
